Commonwealth Auto Insurance Coverages and Additional Products

  • Liability Coverage - Most states require every licensed driver to carry a certain limit of liability insurance. Liability coverage pays for any damage that the driver inflicts on other drivers in an accident. Bodily injury coverage is responsible for injury or death that the driver causes while property damage liability covers vehicle and property damage. This coverage also covers the cost of defense in case of a lawsuit relating to an auto accident.
  • Bodily Injury Liability - This type of liability insurance covers the cost of any injuries or the death of a person as a result of an accident a driver causes. A few examples of coverage would be medical bills, loss of income, hospital bills and pain & suffering damages that are accessed. Bodily injury insurance only covers the victims of the accident. The insured’s own medical bills will not be covered. BI is the short term used for this coverage in the auto insurance industry.
  • Property Damage Liability - Property damage liability insurance covers damage that the insured driver causes to another person’s property. This covers damage to other people’s cars, fences, shrubs, trees, and houses, etc. PD is the short term used for this coverage in the auto insurance industry.
  • Uninsured and Under-Insured Motorist Coverage - pays for the insured’s injuries caused by an uninsured driver or, in some states, a hit-and-run driver. UM and UIM are the short term used for these coverages in the auto insurance industry.
  • Medical Payments Coverage - This coverage pays for the medical cost of the insured and family members, regardless of fault. This coverage also applies when a covered person is injured in an accident as a pedestrian. This coverage will only pay for medical bills; unlike UM where it would cover other losses such as loss wages, loss of consortium, pain and suffering, etc.
  • Uninsured Motorist Property Damage - pays for damage caused to the driver’s vehicle by an uninsured driver. It must be verified that the driver at fault for the accident was uninsured at the time of the loss. Hit and Run incidents do not apply.
  • Comprehensive Coverage - Comprehensive covers damage done to the insured’s vehicle. It only covers damage caused by incidents, not collisions.
  • Safety Equipment coverage - This coverage will waive the comprehensive deductible when a loss has occurred to the vehicle’s glass. This is for all glass windows on the vehicle including the windshield, as well as the headlights, and taillights. This is available only when the vehicle has comprehensive coverage
  • Collision Coverage - Collision insurance pays for the cost of damage to the insured’s vehicle when the driver hits another vehicle or object.
  • A deductible is the dollar amount the insured will pay out of pocket before an insurance company pays for the damage. The lower the chosen deductible, the more expensive the coverage will be.
  • Named Driver Restriction Removal - Our basic contract covers the insured’s vehicle for comprehensive or collision coverage only when an active driver that is listed on the policy was operating the vehicle at the time of the loss. With this optional coverage, coverage will apply even when the driver is not listed, provided the driver does not reside with the insured, is licensed, and is not a frequent operator of the vehicle.
  • Rental Reimbursement Coverage - helps pay the cost of a rental car while the vehicle is being repaired for a covered comprehensive or collision loss. We offer two options ─ $20 dollars per day for up to 30 days and $30 dollars per day for up to 30 days.
  • Vanishing Deductible - For every year the policy is enforce without a lapse and free of claims, deductibles on the policy are reduced by $100 dollars. The maximum reduction is $500.
  • Multi policy discount- Save even more off your Auto policy by bundling your Commonwealth Home Owner’s or Renter’s policy with Commonwealth Auto insurance policy!
